Please note that Brownie Troop 157's first organizational meeting will be held on Wednesday, August 29th, 2012 at 6:15 p.m.
Due to the unavailability of the Scout house, this first meeting will be held in the school's cafeteria.
Parents can plan to fill out lots of forms and discuss the upcoming year. Brownies can plan to earn the Making Friends badge.
For any Brownie who is unable to make the meeting, fear not! We will make sure that you are able to meet the requirements for this badge in future meetings.

Recruitment Drive
On August 14th and 15th, 2012, Brownie Troop 157 held our 2012-2013 recruitment drive. We set up a table on parent orientation nights at SPP school. While only a few people expressed interest in joining, we feel it was a great success in that we gained 2 new members.
Welcome A and A! They report they will be registering at the first meeting.
Of course, in between recruiting new members and generally running around playing, T and G were busy stalking teachers. They were thrilled to see and get a picture with their old first grade teacher Miss M.
Boy, are these girls excited for the new school year!

Our Brownie Uniform
Since I have had some questions about exactly what must be bought for our brownie uniform vest, I thought I would post a pic of T in hers. Please note a few things about the uniform in general...
1. The tie is optional. I costs about 7 bucks.
2. You can substitute the SPP uniform blouse worn under the jumper for the official GS blouse to save yourself 17 bucks.
3. The stars (under the troop number) will be given to you for last year and this coming brownie year, and you do not need to purchase them.
4. The bridging patch will be given to you if you bridged, and you do not need to purchase them.
5. The top pin on the right-side of the vest was given to us for free when we ordered our vest, and is not mandatory. It is a trefoil 100 yr pin that can be worn above the other pin.
6. GS socks, ankle or knee sock, are optional. Any sock that matches is fine.

Early Bird Patch
The Girl Scout Council of Tropical Florida is giving away an early bird patch to any girl who registers before July 31, 2012. Registering involves filling out the same form as last year for each person, and paying 12 bucks per person.
Please register any adult you think is likely to participate in a Brownie event. For example, if you anticipate that a friend, relative or spouse will accompany your girl to any event either with you or instead of you, the friend/relative/spouse must register in addition to you and your daughter. There is a form for each person and the 12 bucks applies to each person.
Feel free to give me a call if you are interested in signing up early to obtain the patch. I have the forms in my house and everyone is welcome to drop by to complete them.

Breaking Brownie News!
Its Official!!!!! We have at least 6 girls committed to participating next year (so far) and we have a troop number. Introducing....
Brownie Troop No. 157
Finally, we were assigned our number today. Everyone can now work on getting their vests in order over the summer. FYI for the girls who bridged over, I will be picking up the bridging badge in the next day or so. That is the rainbow looking badge under the troop numerals on the vest that you see in the below post.

Brownie Uniform
Whether your scout is bridging over from Daisies or is a new recruit, we all need new brownie uniforms. The official brownie uniform consists of (1) the brownie vest, (2) a blue blouse, and (3) a brown skort. All are available online at the official girlscout website of : www.girlscoutshop.com . They are also available locally at the teaching supply store, Get Smart, located at US 1 and SW 117 Street. Lastly, both new and gently used items are available on ebay.
With an eye toward economization, the only uniform items required for our troop are the brownie vest and all the stuff that goes on the vest. That stuff includes: the American flag badge, the Council patch set (our Council is Tropical Florida), the troop numbers (our new troop number has still not been assigned and is not 218), and the cloth pin on which the brownie pin and the world scouting pin are attached.
The triangular badges seen in the picture are earned throughout the year, and not purchased. As of today's date, we still have not been assigned our new troop number. As soon as it's assigned, I'll let everyone know. FYI: I ordered T the smallest size and it fits fine with room to spare.

Underneath the vest is worn a blue blouse. This is an optional purchase and not required, since it is virtually the same color and style as the blue blouse worn under the St. P & P uniform jumper. The only differences are the cute brown buttons, the brown stitching, and the GS emblem on the sleeve. Wearing the St. P & P shirt will save you about 17 bucks. FYI: since I figured the leader's kid ought to have the full official uniform, I bought the GS shirt for T in size 06 and it fits her generously.

For uniform bottoms, the only item available on the official GS site is the brown skort. On ebay, one can also find the skort and also shorts and cargo pants. Frankly, though, any brown or blue bottom of any kind, including denim, is acceptable for the troop. However beware: if your daughter plans to wear her uniform to school, only official GS items are allowed. Certainly, no denim is allowed to be worn at school. FYI: size SM was way too big on T. We had to get the X-SM, which fits her perfectly in the waist, and is very generous everywhere else.
Also available are many miscellaneous items like brownie t-shirts, a tie, knee socks, etc.
